Question 1

Is it really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, free for everyone. No paywall and no credit card. You can start a chat and get your estimate right now, without an account.

Question 2

Is there a limit on how many estimates I can get?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a fair-use limit, because every estimate costs us money to run. Without an account you can get up to 3 estimates a day. With a free account you can get up to 30 estimates every 30 days. Each chat can have up to 15 messages.

Question 3

Do I need to sign up?

Accepted Answer

No. You get your estimate in the chat without an account. A free account lets you save your estimates, download them as a PDF with a Pre-Signing Checklist, and get them by email or SMS. Without an account, the chat is not saved.

Question 4

How does it work?

Accepted Answer

Describe your project in plain words. If something important is missing, we ask a few quick questions. Then you get an itemized estimate for your state and ZIP code: materials, labor, and permit fees where they usually apply. Labor is based on real U.S. wage data and materials are based on current US market data.

Question 5

How accurate are the estimates?

Accepted Answer

Use your estimate as a solid starting point, not a final price. Labor is based on real U.S. wage data for your area. Contractors also add their own costs, like insurance, overhead and profit, so real quotes are often higher. Every home is different too. Because you see every line, you can ask a contractor about the parts that differ.
